If there is one word that describes a lot of the updates this week - one word that articulates what these kids need - is ENCOURAGEMENT. There are a lot of down spirits, it is a reality of life in treatment. You have weeks where you just can't pick yourself up to be happy. Some weeks, you are operating in the valley, not on the mountain - you aren't going from strength to strength. All you can do is just realize your weakness and try your best to get out of bed and face what is coming. As I laying crying in my husband's arms one night last year, during one of my own "down weeks", I said, "I just feel so sad!" He said:
It's ok to feel sad. This situation is sad.
So, when I say encouragement - I don't mean platitudes, I don't mean advice. I don't even mean the ever present "I'm so sorry." I would like us to pray for their hearts to be comforted because really, when you are in a down week, what you truly need is not a band-aid to get you through, but a healing salve to will ease the pain. These families need to know this is hard from the One who went through terrible suffering. They need to know God sees, hears and understands their pain. They need to feel His arms around them and even carrying them through this trial. They need the tangible, real touch of Christ on their minds, spirits and bodies.
I've often found encouragement through song and last Friday, I got another perfect example. Sometimes, someone else has to articulate how you feel to help you through it - and that is exactly what this song did. It's by Katrin Young, written for her 7 year old niece who has completed treatment for a brain tumor. It is just beautiful and you might have already heard it on my or the Team Sophia FB page. So, as you pray for these families, lifting up their heats as expressed in this song - to the Healer of all Hurts.
Here is the link to Katrin's exquisite song: http://f.cl.ly/items/0a1L163r1J151g0a2O2r/Butterfly%20-%20by%20Katrin%20v2.MP3.
